Who we are
When our first son was born in 1994 with a vascular
birthmark, we had no idea what we were in for. We struggled to get a
proper diagnosis and treatment options and eventually had to seek help in
the United States to get the answers we were looking for. At the time, my husband was a medical resident training to be a family physician and I
was a Registered Nurse. If this could happen to us with all of the
resources at our finger tips then what does that mean for other Canadian
families in a similar situation?
In 1998, the Alberta Children's Hospital in Calgary started
a Vascular Birthmark Clinic to serve as a place where parents and children
could get the answers that they needed. This web site was set up to
help give information about Vascular Birthmarks and to direct Canadian
families to get a proper diagnosis and
treatment options.
